A minister's announcement, a public webinar, an all-staff town hall, a podcast series explaining a new service: more and more of how government communicates happens on camera and on a stream. Audiences expect it to look and sound like television, and agencies need it to meet accessibility, branding and records obligations every time.

Serata leads the work: planning, communications and scripting, accessible content, and contract management. Lonsdale St Studio, one of Canberra's longest-running production houses, brings the studios, crews, kit and post-production. You deal with one team.

Why it matters

If it isn't accessible, it isn't finished.

  • Trust is visual now

People judge a message by how it is delivered. Poor sound or a dropped stream undermines even the best policy.

  • Everyone has to be able to follow

Captions, transcripts, Auslan and audio description are part of the production, not an afterthought.

  • Live has no second take

Live events need redundancy built in: backup connections, rehearsals and a crew that has done it hundreds of times.

  • Content has to keep working

A recording should become on-demand video, social clips and a transcript for the record, not a one-off.

Produced like television. Delivered to government standard.

The studios

Three studios on Lonsdale Street.

Purpose-built for broadcast, sound-suppressed with triple-sheeted walls, and designed to run individually or as one.

  • Studio A · 110 m²

Large panels, high-end broadcast and hybrid audience events for up to 40 people.

  • Studio B · 40 m²

Regular panels, interviews, updates and photography.

  • Studio C · 20 m²

    Podcasting, voice-over and audio recording.

  • Green room

A modular staging space for presenters and guests, with live feeds from every studio.

Built for live

  • Master control room

4K video switching, broadcast audio mixing, podcast mixers and IP camera control, all networked and able to be run remotely.

  • Redundant connections

Fibre to the premises with a dedicated 1000/1000 Mbps streaming line, a second independent line for failover, and 5G as a last resort.

  • Cinema-grade cameras

Sony FX cinema cameras with Fujinon cine lenses, colour- and audio-matched across multiple cameras.

  • Post-production

Eight edit stations for editing, animation, graphics, audio and mastering, using Adobe Creative Cloud and DaVinci Resolve.

On location

The studio comes to you.

Three fly-away live streaming kits and on-location video crews take broadcast production to your venue, office or site.

  • Streaming to any platform

Encoders that stream to Teams, Zoom, Vimeo, YouTube and social platforms, with slides and video switched in live.

  • Three cameras, one operator

Remote-controlled cameras, a video switcher and audio mixing, run by a single operator for leaner crews.

  • Its own internet

A bonded 5G array that bypasses venue networks wherever there is 4G or 5G coverage.

  • Remote studios in your office

Meeting rooms retrofitted as remote-controlled studios, operated from the Braddon control room, with lights, cameras, recording and streaming run remotely.

How we produce

Brief to broadcast, with sign-off at every stage.

A shared production timeline shows every task, owner and dependency, so you can see where your project is and approve each milestone.

  1. Plan

Kick-off, scope, storyboards and scripting, location scouting, risk assessment and scheduling.

  2. Set up

Platforms, presenter links and audience access configured and tested, with a full rehearsal for live events.

  3. Produce

Studio or on-location production by a crew inducted into a production safety plan.

  4. Edit

Editing, animation and broadcast graphics, signed off at draft 1, draft 2 and final.

  5. Make it accessible

Captions, transcripts, Auslan and audio description, then colour and audio mastering.

  6. Deliver and report

Files and on-demand links in the formats you need, plus attendance, Q&A and engagement reports.

Accessible and on brand

Every production meets the standard.

  • WCAG 2.1 AA

Content produced to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines at level AA, with live and post captions, open and closed.

  • Auslan and audio description

Auslan interpreting and audio-described versions, planned into the production from the start.

  • Australian Government standards

The Digital Service Standard, the Australian Government Style Manual and branding guidelines applied and checked at each stage.

  • Advice and training

Practical advice and training so your teams can make accessible content part of every production.
